Konrad-Adenauer-Straße, in the heart of Stuttgart, has been the cultural hub of the state capital for decades: numerous key venues and institutions are clustered here, forming the ‘Culture Mile’. To provide a clearer overview of the cultural offerings, jangled nerves has developed a brass wall sculpture that is media-activated and projects information onto the Culture Mile.
Commissioned by the Baden-Württemberg Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport and in collaboration with the Office for Assets and Construction, a 6 × 3-metre installation made of hand-burnished brass has been created, featuring applied brass elements. It depicts the layout of the ‘Kulturmeile’ as a three-dimensional city map, highlighting the cultural institutions in the surrounding area as building outlines. Nine monitor screens are integrated into the sculpture: each assigned to one of the nine buildings, they act as digital windows offering insights into the institutions, providing information on current events and inviting visitors to explore the cultural venues in greater depth via QR codes. In addition to highlighting the individual venues, the nine monitors form a shared media display that brings the entire cultural mile and its diverse offerings to life. This extraordinary combination of media and brass was planned and realised in collaboration with Reinhardt GmbH of Bad Rappenau, which carried out the intricate metalwork.
The brass media wall is a new eye-catcher on the Culture Mile and helps to highlight Stuttgart’s cultural landscape. It serves as a guide and, thanks to its installation-like nature, becomes part of the Culture Mile itself – just as dynamic and varied as the cultural offerings of the state capital.
