Located in the heart of Stuttgart, Konrad-Adenauer-Straße has been the city’s cultural axis for decades. Numerous major institutions line the street, forming what is known as the “Kulturmeile.” To provide clearer orientation within this cultural offering, jangled nerves has developed a brass wall sculpture that is digitally activated and projects its content onto the Kulturmeile.
Commissioned by the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports of Baden-Württemberg and created in collaboration with the State Office for Property and Construction, a 6 × 3-meter installation made of hand-burnished brass has been realized. Accented with applied brass elements, it presents the site plan of the Kulturmeile as a three-dimensional city map, highlighting the surrounding cultural institutions as sculpted building contours. Integrated into the sculpture are nine display panels—each assigned to one of the nine institutions. Acting as digital windows, they offer insights into the respective venues, provide updates on current programs, and allow visitors to explore further via QR codes. Beyond showcasing the individual institutions, the nine screens form a unified media surface that brings the entire Kulturmeile and its diverse cultural offerings to life. The distinctive combination of media and brass was planned and executed in partnership with Reinhardt GmbH from Bad Rappenau, responsible for the complex metalwork.
The brass media wall is a new visual landmark along the Kulturmeile, contributing to the visibility of Stuttgart’s cultural landscape. It provides orientation and, through its sculptural presence, becomes part of the Kulturmeile itself—just as dynamic and multifaceted as the cultural life of the state capital.
