Poetic cloud of light
In the summer of 2023, POST Luxembourg opened its new HELIX headquarters, designed and built by metaform architects. The building takes its name from the 30-meter-high, helix-shaped spiral staircase in the atrium. The headquarters provides modern workspaces and common areas for around 850 employees. At the entrance of the building, visitors are greeted by an impressive light installation with more than 100 OLEDs, designed and developed in cooperation with luxwerk manufaktur für lichttechnik GmbH.
The "Timeline" in the new POST Luxembourg headquarters not only illuminates the entrance hall – it also tells the company's history and its vision for the future. The cloud-shaped, 16-meter-long installation consists of 300 suspended elements, including historical stamps, photos and interactive QR codes. The “leaves” are are frozen in time and illuminated by 112 filigree OLED lights, a new technology that produces very high light intensity while creating ambient rather than technical light. This allows for the light intensity to be adjusted according to the natural light in the building.
“We wanted an element that expands, that fills the space with its presence and not with its volume. We had in mind the phenomenon of leaves on trees changing color and falling as autumn arrives. We froze these falling leaves in time. The idea is also like a stack of letters thrown into the air,” explains Thomas Hundt, CEO of jangled nerves.
The installation is designed as a modular and evolving system, meaning that POST Luxembourg can change entire sections or just a few leaves of the structure to continue telling its story.
