»TROY – 30 Jahre Die Fantastischen Vier«

With the special exhibition “TROY – 30 Years of Die Fantastischen Vier” at StadtPalais Stuttgart, the pioneers of German hip-hop return to their Swabian roots. Developed in close collaboration with the four artists, the exhibition combines a retrospective of the work of Die Fantastischen Vier with a scenographic staging of selected pieces by the group.

The exhibition begins where the story of Die Fantastischen Vier also began: in the childhood bedroom of And.Ypsilon. This first of five dioramas, created with the help of the artist, sets the atmospheric tone for the Fantastischen Vier and forms the chronological and narrative introduction to the exhibition.

The core of the exhibition consists of four additional dioramas—room-sized display cases that visitors can step into—each inspired by famous music videos of the band. These walk-in video worlds include “Die da?!”, “Tag am Meer”, “Sie ist weg”, and “MfG”. In the “Die da?!” diorama, visitors can dress up in 1990s style and sit inside the Trabant from the video. They enter the installations like living paintings in a gallery and immerse themselves in different experiential worlds. Through this interactive form of staging, visitors to TROY become part of the artistic interpretation of each piece, creating their own personal Fantastischen Vier experiences.

The artistic staging inside is contrasted by the deliberately unadorned, stage-like backs of the dioramas. Together with the surrounding exhibition area focused on objects, this creates an exciting dichotomy between the emotional, museal staging on the outside and the artistic, immersive diorama experience on the inside.
