The temporary exhibition “Bavaria and the Olympics 1896–2022” at the Haus der Bayerischen Geschichte in Regensburg seamlessly integrates as a thematic extension into the experience of the permanent exhibition on the 1972 Olympic Games.

Bavaria is considered a venue for elite sports and has previously hosted two Olympic Games, both closely connected to the world events of their time and carrying a history that goes beyond sport. The clearly defined exhibition texts and the consistent use of colour emphasize the independent concept of the presentation, which is dominated by blue tones. The large-scale, film-coated floor graphics and plastered and polished plywood surfaces in the same colour allow for clear readability and a clearly recognizable visitor flow.A connecting element between the two exhibition sections is a timeline that also provides an overview of the events presented.

The exhibition is framed by an accompanying film in the museum cinema, which takes visitors on an Olympic journey through time from 1936 to the present day. Visitors can view items such as the ski jumping suit of Andreas Wellinger, Olympic champion in 2018 in Pyeongchang, or the replica of the four-man bobsleigh used in Andreas Ostler’s Olympic triumph in 1952 in Oslo. Numerous other original sports equipment, souvenirs, and medals tell the story of Bavarian Olympic heroes and past Games.
