Floriade

World Horticultural Expo, Venlo

North Rhine-Westphalia will be represented at the Floriade World Horticultural Expo 2012 with its own regional pavilion. The core topics of “horticulture”, “agribusiness” and “North Rhine-Westphalia as a tourist destination” are shown in a playful and thrilling light over an area of 2,400 m2.

The landscape architects RMP Stephan Lenzen developed a stylised architectural landscape by integrating differentiated polygonal surfaces. Internal and external spaces meld into a homogeneous, accessible sculpture with zones and offerings of varying designs. The exhibition concept by jangled nerves will form an integral part of this design principle. Spaces for presentation and information, for education and emotion, develop directly out of the architecture as polygonal planes of knowledge and experience.

The formal principle of the communicative concept deploys a straightforward and easily understandable semiotic: the image of the “panel”. Depending on the specific content this is interpreted as a sign, a black board, a graph board or a switching panel and integrated into the exhibition architecture. The presentation surfaces provide a whole range of opportunities for interaction: tactile information building blocks, chalk boards for filling in, digital postcards for direct dispatch and a climbing wall. The NRW media wall inside shows more than 100 images with typical regional scenes on integrated monitors.
